Postpartum care

The postpartum period is unique—a phase full of changes, questions, joy, fatigue, and even uncertainty. During the postpartum period, I will support you and your family in a family-centered, sensitive, and professional manner, with plenty of time for your individual needs.

My goal is to give you security, strengthen your trust and be at your side with my knowledge – for you, your baby and your family.

The contents of postnatal care can include:

  • Monitoring of involution processes (uterus, pelvic floor)

  • Monitoring wound healing (perineal or cesarean section scar)

  • Support and advice on breastfeeding or feeding your baby – as it suits you

  • Weight control and general well-being of the baby, if necessary, newborn screening (heel blood test)

  • Baby care, e.g., baby bath

  • Questions about everyday life with a baby (e.g. carrying, sleeping)

  • Emotional support and empowerment – family-centered, with a view to the well-being of mother, baby and the whole family

  • Gentle recovery impulses and first exercises for the pelvic floor

The postpartum visits take place at your home.
I usually come for the first time the day after you leave the hospital, unless we discuss something else. For the first few days, I usually come every day or every other day, depending on your needs. Later, the intervals will become longer—whatever works best for you.

A postpartum visit usually lasts about one hour.

Cost coverage

The health insurance company covers:

  • 16 home visits in the first 56 days of the newborn’s life, if

    • you have your first child

    • you gave birth to twins

    • your child was born by caesarean section

    • your child was born before the 37th week of pregnancy

  • 10 home visits in the first 56 days of life if you already have children

We decide together how many visits are appropriate and necessary. Often, 16 visits are sufficient, and not all of them are needed.

After my care has ended, the mother and father counseling service will be available to you as a further point of contact.

On-call fee

The time of birth is rarely predictable. Therefore, I am available for you on call during the period surrounding the birth. If possible, I will arrange for a substitute for short-term absences or in case of illness.
For this constant availability, I charge a one-time flat rate of 150 francs for the entire postpartum period.
