Postpartum care

The time after birth is unique – a phase full of changes, questions, joy, fatigue, and also uncertainties. During the postpartum period, I will support you and your family in a family-centered, empathetic, and expert manner, with plenty of time for your individual needs.

My goal is to give you security, strengthen trust, and be by your side with my knowledge – for you, your baby, and your family.

The content of postpartum care can include:

  • Monitoring of the involution processes (uterus, pelvic floor)

  • Monitoring of wound healing (perineal or cesarean section scar)

  • Support and advice regarding breastfeeding or feeding your baby – tailored to your needs.

  • Weight check and general well-being of the baby, if necessary, performance of the newborn screening (blood test from the heel)

  • Baby care, e.g. baby bath

  • Questions about everyday life with a baby (e.g. carrying, sleeping)

  • Emotional support and empowerment – family-centered, with a focus on the well-being of mother, baby and the whole family.

  • Gentle postpartum recovery impulses and first exercises for the pelvic floor

Postpartum visits will take place in your home.
I usually come for the first time the day after you are discharged from the hospital, unless we discuss something else. In the first few days, I usually come daily or every other day, depending on your needs. Later, the intervals will become longer – whatever works best for you.

A postpartum visit usually lasts about an hour.

Cost coverage

The health insurance company covers:

  • 16 home visits in the first 56 days of the newborn's life, if

    • you are having your first child

    • you gave birth to twins

    • your child was born via cesarean section

    • your child was born before the 37th week of pregnancy

  • 10 home visits in the first 56 days of life if you already have children

We decide together how many visits are sensible and necessary. Often, 16 visits are sufficient and not all of them are needed.

After my support has ended, the mothers' and fathers' advisory service is available to you as a further point of contact.

On-call fee

The timing of childbirth is rarely predictable. Therefore, I am available on call for you around the time of birth. For short-notice absences or in case of illness, I will arrange for a substitute if possible.
For this constant availability, I charge a one-time on-call fee of 150 Swiss francs for the entire postpartum period.
