Support in cases of early child loss

The early death of a child has many faces:
A miscarriage at the beginning of pregnancy.
A child who dies in the womb.
A stillbirth.
A loss shortly after birth.
An abortion – for whatever reason.

Perhaps an ultrasound examination suddenly revealed that the heart had stopped beating.
Perhaps it started with bleeding or an uneasy feeling.
Perhaps you suddenly no longer feel your child move.
Perhaps the decision to terminate the pregnancy is being considered or has already been made.

Perhaps there is grief, anger, guilt, fear – or simply exhaustion.
Maybe there's nothing there.
Or even relief – because a difficult decision was made or because the situation was very stressful.
Every feeling is valid.

There is usually no rush to determine exactly what will happen or how things can proceed.

It's important to get the time you need. And to know: there isn't just one way.

In addition to medical care provided by a gynecologist, the support of a midwife can also be helpful.

What can I offer?

  • Information and advice on the various options in the event of an early miscarriage

  • Support during a miscarriage at home

  • Postpartum support after an early loss, a stillbirth or a pregnancy termination

  • Support during a subsequent pregnancy – when the loss occurred some time ago and there is a desire to look back on the experience together, to gain new security and to rebuild trust in one's own body.

Cost coverage

  • Miscarriage before the 13th week of pregnancy: The costs for midwife care are covered by the health insurance, but with a deductible and co-payment.

  • Miscarriage from the 13th week of pregnancy (from 13 0/7 weeks gestation): The health insurance company covers ten home visits by a midwife in the first weeks after the loss – fully and without deductible/co-payment.

  • Stillbirth or loss after birth: As after any birth, up to 16 visits in the first eight weeks are paid for by the health insurance company – also without deductible/co-payment.

  • Breastfeeding support after the loss of a child is also provided as part of postpartum care.
